Eye finally see! i-lasik done!!

Happy retirement, my old faithful glasses!
Dang one more box of unopened contact lenses T.T

This is not an advertorial

Finally saved enough money to do my i-lasik (intralase lasik) yesterday. If you're wondering what is I-lasik, it's a newer form of lasik. They don't usually let you know this but in lasik, they use a blade to create a flap. ie: cut open your cornea. If you're lucky, things will be smooth and nice, there are times when they might over cut your flap and end up cutting off your entire flap or even times when they cut a flap but left a small pinhole of uncut cornea right in the middle of your eyes. The cut might also be uneven. With i-Lasik the computer takes over the cutting of the flap so it's bound to be safer. I decided to get it done in Penang Adventist Hospital as they were the only ones in northern Malaysia what does i-Lasik. The other one is in Kuala Lumpur. Another reason being that PAH's price was reasonable. Others are priced atleast 40% higher.

Went for my eye assessment on Tuesday and went thru with the surgery the very next day. Was worried sick when the surgeon told me that he'll have to do manual calculation for my eyes since the computer is unable to calculate due to my extremely high power. See toldja I was half blind.

If you're wondering why do we need an eye assessment, its cause in order to go thru the surgery, we need healthy eyes, It's a little sad that about 50% of people usually fail their eyes assessment. Thus I was shaking in my boots. Even before all this, I have frequently 'abuse' my eyes. Reading in the dark, falling asleep with my contacts lenses on, not using eye drops, poking my eyes with eyeliner pencils, liquid eyeliners, mascaras, you name it I've done it and that includes walking into doors and hitting my eyes due to my own carelessness.

What you might see is the pic on the left, without my glasses, the pic on the right is what I see. At merely 3 feet away.

Things might not go well, I might still end up with glasses and I will NEVER be able to wear contact lenses ever again. This is because the shape of my cornea would have changed and flatted. The contact lenses part hurt me the most knowing that I have worn contact lenses for the past 11 years and my love for coloured contacts. To me, no eyemake up is really complete without coloured contacts for us Asians anyway. How sad it that. And to have the possibility to wear glasses after the procedure is a total pain in the *toot*.

I trusted my surgeon, Dr Tah since I knew he was the super careful type that will never do the procedure if he was not comfortable with it. He wasn't the money crazy type and was an extremely humble man. I really put all my trust in him when I decided to go thru with the procedure. Worst I had to decide in less that 3 hours for a life changing experience. Good or bad. There was many risks to consider.

In the end, I decided that I did not wish to live the rest of my life blindly and forever searching for my glasses every morning and not being able to function without my glasses. Also I acknowledge the fact that long term use of contact lenses is bad for the eyes. Not only it distorts the shape of the eyes, there will also be risk of eye infection that might lead to something worst as well as the fact that contact lenses are actually very very dirty things. A fact that all these while, I rather not think about.

I told JH that I decided to go thru with the surgery and all he said was, 'Ok, lets go get you new glasses soon' and ' I like you in glasses anyway'. That really sealed the deal and also reminds me of how much I really appreciate him and love him, they way he accepts me as I am. Flawed and all.

Eye see youuuuuuu~
Nope, my eyes didn't turned horribly weird afterwards, It still looked normal after the surgery

The entire surgery was pretty much painless. It would have been great if my mom and dad was there with me thru the surgery but I didn't tell them to come since I fear it might gross my mom out. My managers and colleague came for the moral support instead which was comforting.

I accept that fact that even after the procedure I will not be able to get 20/20 vision because my power is too high and there wll be leftover power. I've been warned that I will probably have a max of -150 left but from -1200 to -150 doesn't sound too bad :P (There I've finally revealed my biggest secret ever. My eye power was actually -1200) My colour contacts wasn't because I was vain, it was because I neeeeeeed them and hey if I had to wear contacts anyway why shouldn't I 'beautify' myself by getting coloured ones, right??

GO ME! lmao

A BIG BIG thank you to the surgeon, Dr Tah and the nurses at Penang Adventist Hospital's Vision Centre! And not forgetting all the well wishes *muaks*

P.s: If I said anything wrong, please don't sue me. I've given all my money to PAH for the surgery.

Thank you for writing about your Lasik experience. Glad things went well and keeping my fingers crossed that you get your wish to not have to wear glasses at all. It is quite amazing that they can cut it down from 1200 - my sis has the same power and she'll get it done once she starts working.
