It was erm.. okay. Hong Kong is a great place for cosmetics, branded bags and food. Unfortunately, my budget was a measly RM650. Imagine that. I think I deserve some kind of award for going to HK with that little money. Like seriously. With that kinda budget you could probably tell that I didn't get any mind blowing cosmetic hauls or any branded bag.
What's the one thing me and JH's grandpa have in common? We both have roads named after us! Except mine's in HK. AHAHAHAHAGAAAA!!! *cough cough*
Air ticket was another RM700 for me but JH paid for the hotel which was right in
Tsim Sha Tsui so that was great. The rooms were clean, a little musty smelling but no complains! The transportation system was fantastic. It was the thing I loved best about HK. Not the cheapest but it was worth it. The buses and the MTRs - super convenient. It also helps that JH really did his homework before the trip and we knew exactly where to go, how to get there and which bus or MTR to take despite never being there.
Tadaaa, you like it? You like it??
We stayed in a little hotel right next to the Chungking Mansion. The view is best described as never before seen! You can probably guess that we kept our window blinds down for the remainder of the trip.
The Spring Moon was too posh for me to take out my camera and snap so here you go, scones from the Mermaid Bakery. Not the best...
The food! I never eaten Dim Sum so good in my entire life. Now that I've tasted it, I know that what I've been having is almost crap in comparison!
My aunt was kind enough to take us to The Peninsular's Spring Moon. It's roughly about HK$50 (RM22+) per dish of 4 little items. We has 9 dishes and it was mind blowing. To me, that was the highlight of our entire trip.
Picture from google; I've always remembered him for his seaweed eyebrows..
It's a place frequently frequent by HK movie stars. But we only saw two that day. An old Lau Ching Wan and his Miss HK wife.
No younger, single and preferably male movie star there unfortunately. Not that I could recognize anyone anyway. The only reason I recognize this guy was because he used to star in comedies when I was younger which was pretty much the only time I saw Cantonese movies on tv.
Kiss me Heavy Rotation Enamel; MUJI concealer, small OralLab lipbalms, Perfumeria lip balms and some weird lip gloss I got on impulse..
The only thing I got from Sasa was the Kiss me Heavy Rotation Enamel in #2. It was only selling for HK$49 (RM21) and our good old Watson here is selling it for RM39.90 or RM35.90 on offer. I bought my old one for RM39.90. Ouch!
Bonjour was selling them for HK$49each! Bought little chap sticks for HK$4.90 each and Perfumia Gal lip balms that I've been using for the past 5 years that has been long discontinued back home for HK$35 each.
Saw plenty of Dolly Wink eyelashes for hell alot cheaper than Malaysia. They were like going at almost half of what Malaysia was selling. Maybe RM40+? I didn't buy any. Not with JH's laser eyes on me.
On our 2nd last day of shopping, JH bought me a Coach wallet; A small bag I bought that came with a magazine. It was on offer at HK$45
Wish I could buy more gifts home but transportation and food has already took a chunk of monies from me.
To save, we ate at Food Courts in department stores. Yes yes that's pathetic right? Got an earful from my manager who went a week before me. She recommended to eat at the little restaurant all along Tsim Sha Tsui because they're famous. The prices was horrendous though. It was a good HK$50 (RM22+) for a plate of fried rice. In Malaysia a plate of fried rice is at most RM5? *cough* Being poor, I opted in eat in food courts instead.
Although manager recommended eating there, she hated HK food. She said it tasted bad. We, on the other hand, loved it to bits. The food in the department stores were actually REALLY good. The meat; pork, beef was so tender it was heavenly. It cost us HK$32 - HK$35 for a HUGE bowl with free drink. We share one bowl because it was so huge I couldn't finish it on my own.
The weather was not so kind; it was chilly and very cold. Occasionally dipping below 10 degrees Celsius. Something I'm not able to handle. I don't have any fancy winter clothing because I've never been to anywhere during Winter. HK was my first.
JH's mom was fantastic; she borrowed me her jackets, gloves, cashmere sweater to keep me warm so that I don't have to buy any. My anemia was a problem especially when my hands couldn't generate any heat despite rubbing them or anything. The gloves couldn't help, keeping them in my pocket didn't either. They were almost always frozen. Which I use to bully JH by touching him unexpectedly.
I developed severe skin allergy because my skin dried up and cracked and little red bumps appeared and they were super itchy. I scratched like a monkey every where I went. I used my Egyptian Magic cream but it turned out useless. I think my skin couldn't absorb it well.
Meet Stitt, the one on the HK$500 note and Stephen, the one that got shot at during the war..
We went to the HSBC tower to go meet Stephen and Stitt. They are really famous, so famous that you'll find Stitt on HK$500 notes. They are the two majestic lions in front of the HSBC towers. JH said that we'll get lucky if we rub their front paw. Not too sure if that's true but the paws does seem more worn out. I rubbed. After looking left and right and doing it as discreetly as I could.
A more magnificent view of Stephen, our lucky lucky lions!
I must admit that thru out the entire HK trip, me and JH were lucky. We had fantastic luck with transportation and we avoided two major mishaps that could have cost us a LOT of money.
A piggy bank competition and these are the winners; My favourite "Lion"
Once, on our way to catch a boat to Macau, I remembered our passports. We ran all the way back. I thank God that we remembered before buying the ticket and spending an hour on the speedboat to Macau only to get kicked back at the Immigrations. I didn't have a single identification on me. No ID, No driver license, nil.
Another favourite, and to think these were made by primary school kids!
2nd, was when we bought our tickets back to HK and the display stated that it was a
8:00PM ride. The tickets we bought was for
7.30PM. We had less than 3 minutes to get on board and I didn't realize. JH saw the time and asked me to run. I ran. I didn't ask why but I just ran and we made it just on time.
For some strange reason, I was reminded of Bunny when I saw the Bling Pig.
We headed to The Peak later that night and according to the guide book we were to take Bus 15 that will take us to the tram station. Or we could walk, its just 10 minutes away. We boarded the bus and paid HK$9.80 each. I complained about the price since it was for less than 5 minute bus ride. 5 minutes turned 20 minutes then turned half an hour. We were halfway up the mountain when we realize we boarded a bus that takes us directly to the Peak. Lucky!
Some fancy place we saw while walking to the Ferry. It looks fantastic at night! Like some fairytale mansion Like every tourist do, we headed up to the roof of one of the malls to catch a glimpse of HK at night. It was HK$25 and not very worth it. When the wind blew, it was 0 Celcius and my teeth sent out SOS in moorse codes.
Then again, it was VERY pretty but we spent less than 10 minutes up there. We ate at a nearby restaurant while watching the horrendous queue of people waiting for the tram. It was about over 100 people queuing in the bloody cold! We wondered if they knew about the bus service. Again, we took the bus down and there was probably less than 6 people on board. Took us directly to the Ferry service and we walked a few minutes to the hotel.
To come, MACAU!
